Remembrance Sunday is 8 November. Histon's parade leaves the Legion club at 9.15am; times for Over, Gamlingay, Duxford and the American Cemetery, and gaps.
Remembrance Sunday is Sunday 8 November 2026, and Armistice Day, 11 November, falls on the Wednesday after. South Cambridgeshire has no town centre and no single district parade: each village holds its own act of remembrance, usually at its war memorial, organised by the parish, the church or the local Royal British Legion branch.
On 4 October only one village had published its 2026 arrangements. This page gives that one, the villages whose timings follow a fixed pattern every year, and the ones still to announce. We check the organisers’ pages weekly and will add each as it appears.

Histon and Impington: confirmed for 2026
The Histon and Impington branch of the Royal British Legion says Remembrance Sunday is on 8 November 2026. Local uniformed groups parade from the Royal British Legion Club on Saffron Road at 9.15am to the Histon War Memorial, near the junction of Water Lane and Station Road, where the Service of Remembrance starts at 9.30am. The two-minute silence is kept during the service, and local organisations can lay wreaths.
The branch says the parish council will arrange road closures along the parade route. It has not published the exact roads or times. (Royal British Legion, Histon and Impington)
Over, Willingham and Longstanton: the regular pattern
The Over and District branch of the Legion describes how it marks remembrance each year. In Over, the branch wreath is laid at the war memorial at 11am on 11 November, which is Wednesday this year. On Remembrance Sunday the village gathers at the war memorial at 2pm, when other organisations lay their wreaths, then parades to St Mary’s Church for a service at 3pm. In Willingham and Longstanton, remembrance is kept during the 11am church services on the Sunday.
The branch’s events page still reads “Remembrance Sunday falls on the 9th November in 2025”, so treat these as the standing arrangements rather than a 2026 notice. (Royal British Legion, Over)
Gamlingay: 10.45am at the cemetery memorial in 2025
Gamlingay’s war memorial stands in the cemetery on Church Street. Last year the benefice newsletter for St Mary’s Gamlingay, Hatley St George and Everton set out the day: a said Eucharist at St Mary’s at 9.30am, then meet at Gamlingay Cemetery War Memorial at 10.45am for the act of remembrance, with the names of the Hatley war dead read before the 11am silence. A service shared with Gamlingay Baptist Church followed at St Mary’s at around 11.15am. Everton held its own act of remembrance at the churchyard memorial at 10.55am. (St Mary’s newsletter, 31 October 2025, PDF)
The 2026 newsletter covering November has not been published yet. The same pattern is likely, but we will confirm the time when it is.
IWM Duxford: the silence and free entry for veterans
IWM Duxford observes a two-minute silence on Remembrance Sunday and invites visitors to join it. Serving military personnel and veterans get free admission on the day. IWM lists the event as “second Sunday in November”, free with general admission, which makes it Sunday 8 November this year. (IWM, Remembrance Sunday at IWM Duxford)
Cambridge American Cemetery: Veterans Day on 11 November
The American cemetery between Coton and Madingley holds the graves of US servicemen and women of the Second World War. The American Battle Monuments Commission held its Veterans Day ceremony there at 11am on Tuesday 11 November 2025, lasting about an hour, free and open to the public. (ABMC, Veterans Day ceremonies)
ABMC has not posted its 2026 ceremony list yet. If it follows the pattern, the ceremony will be on Wednesday 11 November.
Cambourne: the new Memorial Garden, date not yet set
Cambourne had no war memorial until last year. In October 2025 the district council said the town’s new Memorial Garden, at the Eastgate and Jeavons Lane junction at the end of the High Street, would be the central location for Cambourne’s annual Remembrance Parade and ceremony, with a permanent war memorial. (South Cambridgeshire District Council, 22 October 2025)
On 4 October Cambourne Town Council’s events calendar listed the fireworks on 6 November and the Christmas market but no Remembrance parade. (Cambourne Town Council events) We will add the time as soon as it is published.
Still to announce
- Sawston. The Sawston and District Legion branch points readers to its events calendar, which has not been updated since 2025. (Royal British Legion, Sawston and District)
- Cottenham, Linton, Melbourn, Great Shelford, Waterbeach and other large villages had nothing published for 2026 on 4 October. Most hold an act of remembrance at the war memorial before 11am; the parish magazine or church notice board usually carries the time in late October.
If you organise one of these services, email hello@southcambsonline.co.uk with the time and place and we will add it here and to the what’s on this month listings.
Getting there
Village services are short and on foot, and parking near war memorials is limited, often to the roadside. Histon’s route will be closed to traffic for the parade. Our parking in South Cambs page explains why the district runs no car parks of its own, and the roadworks and travel page carries any closure notices. The week before, the fireworks page has every display from 5 to 7 November.
